Co-Founder and Board President | Equity Alliance

Hailed as a ‘Now Generation Activist’ by The Tennessean and a 2019 Woman of Influence by the Nashville Business Journal, Charlane is the Co-Founder and Board President of The Equity Alliance, a nonprofit organization that empowers people of color to engage in the civic process and use their voting power as a weapon in the fight for social justice. By day, she currently serves as the Community Liaison and part of the Communications Staff for U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper, representative for Tennessee’s 5th congressional district. As a political strategist and public relations expert, she is also a partner with The Equity Group, LLC and founder of the Power of 10 PAC, a political action committee dedicated to funding and supporting candidates of color. She has helped Tennessee’s low voter participation rates by registering, educating and engaging black voters, leading voter engagement campaigns, and moving the state from 50th in voter turnout in 2014 to trending 1st in early voting turnout during the 2018 midterms. She has helped to elect school board members, judges and state legislators, including the first Latina general sessions judge, first Latina Metro Nashville school board member, first black register of deeds, and first public defender endorsed by the Power of 10 PAC.
