Xelba was born in Venezuela, and spent her formative years between Santiago, Chile and Miami, Florida. After living on the West Coast for some years, Xelba made Philadelphia home where she earned a master’s degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Environmental Justice from UPenn. It was here Xelba became increasingly involved in organizing for social justice and community empowerment, including food sovereignty, environmental health, and immigrant justice work. She brings a global view to MOH that is heavily influenced by her latin culture and immigration experience. Xelba is passionate about challenging white supremacy and the heteropatriarchal system in her personal and professional life, and has been a strong voice in shaping MOH as a steering committee member.
